Oliver Cloke is a British artist now living in Melbourne. Born in London in 1982, Oliver completed his BA(Hons) at the Slade School of Fine Art in 2006 and has since exhibited in and curated shows in London, Malta, New York and Melbourne. Having completed a Post Graduate Diploma at the VCA in 2009, Oliver is now studying for a Master of Fine Arts at Monash University.
Oliver is largely interested in re-appropriating what we tend to disparage in our everyday society. His work extends to exploring materials and their uses, purposes and our understanding of them with the intention to reignite our awareness of that which we use, refuse and – sometimes – reuse. He has a fascination with the investigation of ideas through playmaking and construction. A language of disruption and ambiguity runs through his work, as well as a conscious engagement with physical and cognitive spaces.
