Perception

Significant to my work, and of great interest to me, is the exploration of visual perception. This is evident in my installation work but also in my drawing and paper works. I apply the prescribed notions of technical drawing methods and push their limitations in order to merge and confuse the ideas of the possible and of the impossible. There is a relationship here, to the constructions within my thread pieces and how these two media then drive the interruption of logical perception. My intention is to push viewer response through the construction of both suggested and manifested illusionary space. What propels my work is the resolve to shift the focus from sight through to understanding, how that cognition arises and also recognition of the physical relationships between the viewer and the works. In relation to these ideas the importance of the use of varied contexts for the installation of my work as well as exploration of the tactility of the media used has become apparent, for example, through the focus upon drawing, thread and its materiality.
