After Simon Starling’s ‘Shed Boat Shed’ of 2005. Cardboard box crafted into a practical object and then back into an art object.
boxshipbox is an articulate-able sculpture made out of cardboard. Its component parts can be formulated in three different ways:
A sculptural floor object, not too disimilar to its original form.
A boat that can be floated on water.
A flattened box that hangs on the wall like a painting.
This artwork is a homage to Starling because I enjoyed the peculiarity of his artwork. This piece has similar tendencies and the word play melds these associations.
